Following a recent prison break, the Nigerian government has released the identities of the fleeing inmates. Get details on the escape and ongoing search efforts.

The federal government has finally revealed the identities of the 69 inmates who absconded from the Suleja Medium Security Custodial Centre in Niger State, after a pursuit that lasted for eleven weeks.

A total of 119 inmates escaped from the facility on April 24, 2024 as a result of heavy rainfall causing the perimeter wall to collapse during that night.

This latest development has been detailed in a statement released by the spokesperson of Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS), Abubakar Umar.

In order to facilitate their recapture, the NCoS has publicly disclosed the identities and photographs of the escapees. This move was made in conjunction with security authorities to prompt alertness among citizens.

The significance of public collaboration in finding and returning the escapees, who pose a danger to both national security and public safety was stressed by Umar.

In addition, he emphasized that the NCoS has put in place various conspicuous and secret strategies to apprehend escapees and strengthen safety throughout detention facilities all over the country.
