A Canada-based woman accused of issuing threats against Nigerians residing in the North American region has been identified by the Nigerian federal government.
A video that is causing concern on X (previously known as Twitter) features a woman expressing anti-Yoruba sentiments during what seems to be an online meeting on the social media platform TikTok.
The video, which the correspondent saw, shows the woman speaking mainly in Pidgin English.
Identified as Amaka Patience Sunnberger, the woman behind the threatening remarks was confirmed by Abike Dabiri-Erewa – Chairman of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), on Wednesday, August 28.
During the video, Sunnberger can be heard uttering these words: “Make sure you capture my voice clearly; it’s high time we began poisoning both Yoruba and Benin. Poison all their meals at work, poison their water supply too so that they die one after another.”
Sunnberger, who represents herself as a native of Ontario, Canada, stated her plan to bring toxic materials to her workplace with the intent of causing harm to individuals belonging to either Yoruba or Benin community.

Her comments were justified by her claim that they were a response to perceived “hate” against Igbo people. Other voices could be heard interjecting and encouraging her throughout the video.
Sunnberger gave a frightening speech to the other attendees, stating “I want the Igbo people to develop a wicked heart. You all are too silent. This has gone on long enough! If you have any way of eliminating them, kill them and get rid of them.”
She challenged anyone to report her to the Canadian authorities and appeared self-assured in being able to avoid any consequences.
Yet, it’s possible that her confidence is unfounded. Dabiri-Erewa highlighted Sunnberger’s deletion of her TikTok account and shared how Nigerians in Canada have reported her to the appropriate Canadian authorities.
The Nigerian community, both domestically and internationally, has expressed outrage and apprehension regarding the video’s content. The incident illustrates the hazardous implications of ethnic hate speech.
