Nigerian Government Takes Action: Ban on Lodging Underage Girls in Hotels
The lodging of teenagers and underage girls in hotels across the country will no longer be tolerated, according to the Federal Government.
Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, made this announcement during the ‘Unlock Training and Grants’ ceremony in Abuja. Kennedy-Ohanenye emphasized that hotel owners will face sanctions and that it will no longer be business as usual for them.
To demonstrate the seriousness of the government’s stance, hoteliers in the Federal Capital Territory have been instructed to display signposts outside their establishments warning against lodging underage girls.
The minister also extended this warning to school proprietors, urging them to prevent bullying among students.
Kennedy-Ohanenye stated that Nigeria must strive for improvement and that the government will not tolerate the lodging of underage girls or bullying in schools.
Additionally, the government has initiated an investigation into a distressing viral video showing 10 Nigerian teenagers who were rescued from Ghana, where they were trafficked for prostitution. The minister assured that decisive action will be taken on this matter by next Monday.
