The Federal Government is dedicated to achieving Nigeria’s foreign policy goals, according to Amb. Yusuf Tuggar, Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Tuggar said this on Thursday in Abuja during a talk at the Association of Retired Career Ambassadors of Nigeria’s 2023 annual event.

Leading authority on border studies, Prof. Anthony Asiwaju, hosted the lecture titled “The Nigerian Foreign Policy Agenda Under the Tinubu Administration.”
The foreign minister claims that different people have different opinions, such as that Nigeria doesn’t have a foreign policy or that the nation needs to establish goals for its foreign policy.
As a result, Tuggar stated: “My starting point is to define foreign policy, which is, in essence, the method or plan selected by the national government to accomplish its objectives in its dealings with outside organisations.
“With respect to policy itself, at least that is how international relations theorist Steve Smith and his fellow travellers defined it.”
He mentioned the goals of Nigeria’s foreign policy, stating that they are spelt out in the Constitution and have always existed.
The goals are to advance and safeguard Nigeria’s national interest, he continued.
