Nigerian Government Implements Minimum 25% Salary Increase for Workers

The Nigerian Federal Government has given its approval for a salary increase for civil servants, with the increment ranging from 25 per cent to 35 per cent.

This increase will be applicable to the remaining six consolidated salary structures, which include the Consolidated Public Service Salary Structure (CONPSS), Consolidated Research and Allied Institutions Salary Structure (CONRAISS), Consolidated Police Salary Structure (CONPOSS), Consolidated Paramilitary Salary Structure (CONPASS), Consolidated Intelligence Community Salary Structure (CONICCS), and Consolidated Armed Forces Salary Structure (CONAFSS).

In addition to the above, the salary increment also extends to polytechnics and colleges of education. Specifically, it affects the Consolidated Polytechnics and Colleges of Education Academic Staff Salary Structure (CONPCASS) and the Consolidated Tertiary Educational Institutions Salary Structure (CONTEDISS).

The Health Sector is not left out, as it will also benefit from the salary increment. This includes the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) and the Consolidated Health Sector Salary Structure (CONHESS).

The announcement of the salary increase was made through a statement signed by Emmanuel Njoku, the Head of Press at the National Salaries, Incomes, and Wages Commission (NSIWC). According to the statement, the salary increases will come into effect from January 1, 2024.

Furthermore, the Federal Government has also approved a pension increase for pensioners on the Defined Benefits Scheme. The pension increase will range from 20 per cent to 28 per cent and will be applicable to the six consolidated salary structures mentioned earlier. This pension increase will also take effect from January 1, 2024.
