The Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, has criticized Governor Usman Ododo of Kogi State for impeding the arrest of his predecessor, Yahaya Bello, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Fagbemi expressed his concern over Ododo’s actions, stating that it is “extremely unsettling” for him to obstruct the EFCC from apprehending Bello.
According to reports, EFCC operatives had raided Bello’s residence in Abuja as part of an ongoing investigation into fraud.

However, Bello was allegedly smuggled out of his residence by Ododo in order to avoid arrest by the anti-graft agency.
Fagbemi emphasized that the EFCC should not be hindered in carrying out its lawful duties.
In a personally signed statement, he highlighted the importance of upholding the rule of law and ensuring that state institutions can function effectively and efficiently.
He also stated that while he is committed to protecting the fundamental rights of Nigerians, he will not hesitate to intervene if any agency oversteps its boundaries.
