It has been verified by the Abia State Government that it will start paying the new minimum wage in October 2024.
Okey Kanu, the commissioner of information, made the statement on Monday after Governor Alex Otti presided over a meeting of the State Executive Council.
Kanu emphasized that the new wage structure will be applicable to every type of worker in the state, which is a big step forward for workers in a variety of industries.
The administration also intends to build 17 court halls—one for each local government area—in order to strengthen the state’s judicial system in addition to the wage announcement.

The objective of this effort is to enhance the availability of legal services and bolster the judicial system in Abia.
The commissioner also disclosed that Ugwunnagbo will host a free medical outreach program next week, organized by the Ministry of Health. Services like consultations, free diagnostic testing, and healthcare for mothers and children will be provided as part of the outreach.
Additionally, para-Olympic athletes from the state, such as Miss Onyinyechi Mark (61 kg gold winner) and Miss Esther Nworgu (41 kg silver winner), will be honored by Governor Otti.
The state emphasized its dedication to assisting regional athletes by praising their accomplishments on the national arena.
