The governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni from the northern region, has denied approval for a minimum wage of N70,000 to be paid to civil servants in the state.
The governor refuted a viral post attributed to the government on the approval of a new minimum wage, stating that it was untrue and deceptive.
A statement released on Thursday by the governor’s spokesperson, Mamman Mohammed, contained this information.
He mentioned that the state government was yet to issue any statement regarding the new minimum wage as they were still working on it.

A false and deceptive post on social media claiming that a new minimum wage has been approved has garnered the Yobe Government’s attention.
The government is currently working on the minimum wage issue and has not yet released a statement. However, once it is finalized, an official announcement will be made promptly.
It is highly irresponsible, misleading and preemptive for an individual to speak or make any statement on behalf of the state government without authorization.
Mohammed stated that because the post did not include any specific details or information on where and when the statement was made, it lacks credibility in a professional setting.
According to the aide, a national daily has disavowed the material. They claimed that neither did they use the logo shown in the online post nor could they locate any reference of such a story on their website.
Accordingly, he suggested to the general public that they ignore the “deceptive and confusing message.”
