Ruth Ogunleye, a female military personnel from Nigeria, has made serious allegations against her superiors. She accuses a Brigadier General and two colonels of making her life extremely difficult. Ogunleye specifically holds one of the colonels responsible for the challenges she has faced in the Army.
On TikTok, where she goes by the username @Ogunleyeruthsavage1, she recently shared her distressing experience. According to her, one of the senior officers repeatedly attempted to assault her, forcefully administered injections, forcibly evicted her from her residence, and confined her in a psychiatric hospital for several months.
Additionally, she claims that this officer hindered her career progression by denying her promotion courses due to her rejection of his advances. Ogunleye asserts that she possesses evidence and witnesses to support her claims.
The woman who made the allegations of abuse and misconduct by senior officers in the Nigerian Army has appealed for support from the public.
She stated that the officer froze her account for a year, resulting in no salary being paid to her. She also claimed that she was beaten by soldiers and injected with drugs whenever the officer wanted to embarrass her.
She mentioned that the officer asked her father to relay a message to her, instructing her to “obey the last command,” which she interpreted as a demand for sexual favors.
The Nigerian Army has promised to investigate the allegations, with the Director of Army Public Relations stating that they will conduct a thorough investigation to determine the veracity of the claims.
A petition has been filed by Inibehe Effiong, a public interest and human rights lawyer, to Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff. Effiong is seeking accountability for the Army personnel who assaulted police officer ASP Edet Inyang.
The incident occurred near the Nigerian Army’s 63 Brigade in Asaba, Delta State, where Inyang was subjected to torture.
On a similar note, in November 2023, the Nigerian Army allegedly invaded the Adamawa State Police Command headquarters in Yola, resulting in the death of Inspector Jacob Daniel. President Bola Tinubu has warned the Nigerian Army against retaliatory assaults on the police or civilians in response to any provocation.
