Olusegun Obasanjo, a former president of Nigeria, asserts that the general elections in 2023 should mark a turning point for the country and cautions that selecting candidates based solely on feelings will be harmful.
“The elections in 2023 should mark a turning point if Nigeria is prepared to do things correctly.
According to a statement released on Sunday by his spokesperson Kehinde Akinyemi, Obasanjo remarked, “We should not go for passion that would ruin us.
The former President gave a speech over the weekend when the leadership of the most important sociocultural group in Benue State’s Tiv territory, Mzough U Tiv, paid a visit to his penthouse apartment at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State.
According to Obasanjo, the Middle Belt should continue to push for a rotating presidency for the nation while he supports the transfer of power from the North to the South.
To “rescue it and restore it to what God has made it to be,” he urged Nigerians to view their nation as a whole.
The elderly man also stated that the oil and gas industry can no longer provide for the country’s rising population.
“Only agriculture and related industries could deal with the country’s expanding population. Obasanjo declared that agriculture and farming are what will feed the country.
He urged the Tiv people to put their attention on farming and agricultural businesses, reiterating that he had moved over the incident of having his farm burned in Benue and making a suggestion that an industry will be developed in the state the following year.
