Nigerian citizens can expect to receive their passports just 3 weeks after applying for them
According to the Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigerians would receive their passports three weeks from the application’s submission date, unless there were unanticipated technical difficulties.
Speaking to reporters on Friday at the opening of the Igbogbo Passport Front Office in the Igbogbo-Baiyeku Local Council Development Area of Ikorodu, Lagos State, the Comptroller General, Mrs. Caroline Adepoju, revealed this information.
After being confirmed as the substantive Comptroller General of the NIS earlier on Friday, Adepoju stated that the opening of the Igbogbo office was her first assignment. She added, “I can tell you, barring all technical problems, you should be able to complete apply for your passport and within three weeks, you should be able to get it.”
As their national identity numbers will be connected to their passports, she said it was crucial that all applicants register using the same information that they had on file with the National Identity Management Commission.
Since the Nigerian passport contains the national identification number on it, applicants for our passport must provide identical information to others who are applying for passports on their national identity numbers.
“Therefore, from application to passport production, you have three weeks to obtain your passport if there are no problems,” Adepoju continued.
She had already suggested that Nigerians whose passports were about to expire apply for renewal six months in advance.
She appealed on Nigerians to always apply early for passport renewal, pointing out that certain nations refused visas to applicants whose passports had less than six months left on them.
Adepoju informed the community’s leaders and citizens that Deputy Comptroller Muyiwa Odunubi, the passport control officer, and his team will provide exceptional service while also thanking them for their help in making the passport office’s location a success.
She made a plea for more assistance so that things could run smoothly in the office.
The Commissioner for Home Affairs, Ibrahim Layode, spoke on behalf of the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who earlier said that it was commendable that the passport office was located in Igbogbo because it demonstrated the Federal Government’s dedication to offering top-notch services that met international standards.
He says there are 200 applicants that the Igbogbo passport office can handle.
