Nigerian officials are scrutinizing British Airways for its frequent flight delays. Learn about the reasons behind the investigation and possible outcomes.
British Airways is currently under investigation by the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) due to their persistent delays in departure times occurring for three straight days.
As part of its Foreign Aircraft Safety Assessment Programme (FASAP), the NCAA has declared that it will carry out comprehensive inspections on all airplanes operating along the Nigerian route to ensure they adhere to safety regulations.
The ongoing investigation has been confirmed by Michael Achimugu, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the NCAA. He stated that British Airways has faced delays since August 27th which have caused notable inconvenience to passengers.
Also, on Friday passengers travelling with Qatar Airways encountered a comparable distressing situation at Abuja’s Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport when their flight was halted due to takeoff being aborted.

Achimugu stated that the NCAA is looking into the issue with British Airways and taking action by investigating these ongoing delays. Their objective is to pinpoint what’s causing them, take appropriate steps to protect passenger rights and prevent recurrence of such incidents in future.
To ensure adherence to regulatory standards, intensified inspections of aircraft under the NCAA/ICAO FASAP will be conducted as part of the investigation. The NCAA is dedicated to safeguarding travelers’ rights and striving towards eliminating needless flight delays in accordance with the guidelines from the Honourable Minister of Aviation.
Passengers of Qatar Airways stationed at Abuja Airport were stranded when their trip was cancelled due to a flat tire. A staff member reported that Flight QR 1432, on its way to Doha, stumbled upon a nail along the runway which caused damage to one of its front tires. The airline expressed regret for any trouble faced by those affected and guaranteed them speedy repair services.
Mr. Umar, a passenger on the flight, voiced worries about how the delay could affect his connecting flights and business obligations. Additionally, another anonymous passenger raised doubts regarding the circumstances that caused a puncture to happen right before takeoff. They were surprised by such an incident occurring at all.
The NCAA spokesperson stated that they had not received any information about the Qatar Airways incident but assured to investigate as soon as possible when asked for a statement.
