Desmond Okeh, an Anambra State native, was taken into custody by the Nigerian Army in Port Harcourt after he pretended to be a Lance Corporal in the military.
Lt.-Col. Ikedichi Iweha, the port-harcourt-based spokesman for the Nigerian Army’s 6th Division, displayed the phony soldier to reporters on Tuesday.
Iweha claimed that the suspect was apprehended as a result of a report from the city’s intelligence agency detailing his activities at a new generation bank there.
Desmond Okeh was detained on July 6 at a new generation bank while wearing full-body number six military camouflage and in possession of a phony military ID card, the man said.
“The suspect had a phony duty number: 16N/75/2038 on his falsified military ID card, and he was dressed in Army camouflage with a rank of Lance Corporal.
The bogus pass pamphlet was also in the suspect’s hands when he was taken into custody.
Iweha also warned the general public to be aware of the tricks thieves use to defraud them of their hard-earned money and property. These criminals often pose as military officers.
