Nigerian armed forces welcome their first-ever professor
On Friday, the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) located in Kaduna declared that Lt. Col. Abubakar-Surajo Imam has been elevated to the position of Professor of Mechatronics Engineering.
According to reports, Imam is the first serving member of the Nigerian Army to hold a professorship.
The promotion was made public by the Academy’s Registrar, Brig.-Gen. AM Tukur, in a statement on Friday in Kaduna State.
He claims that the elevation became effective on October 1, 2023, after it was approved in the September NDA Council Meeting.

The registrar stated that Imam’s services to the Academy’s Department of Mechatronics Engineering were valued and acknowledged by the council, as evidenced by their decision.
He claimed that the new professor had upheld the high standards of competence anticipated in his field and had given excellent services.
He continued, “This recognition not only honours Professor Imam but also demonstrates the Nigerian Defence Academy’s dedication to recognising and honouring exceptional contributions within its academic community.”
