According to a political activist named Ayomipe Jatto, the All Progressives Congress-led administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari allegedly kept the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) imprisoned for years before passing the baton of militia leadership to President Bola Tinubu.
The activist urged Igbo ethnic-nationality leaders with working together to put an end to the sit-at-home phenomenon, which he described as a raging flame that may cause the area more harm.
He addressed the ongoing debate on Sunday regarding Kanu’s continuing detention by the Department of State Service in Abuja despite court orders for his release.
Jatto stated that due of a lack of unity, the southeast region has devolved into a war zone without the involvement of an outside invader and is now hurting other parts of the nation.
He added that Nnamdi Kanu supporters have burned Igbo markets on fire and that the southeast is a region at war with itself, where innocent primary school children are targeted.
Jatto further cautioned Kanu not to perish in prison for wanting to separate the Biafra Republic from Nigeria.
He declared, “I urge President Bola Tinubu and the APC-led administration to look into the problem. Despite the court decision allowing Nnamdi Kanu to leave on bond, it was impossible for him to be released.
“There are further court cases pending against him, but just one of them granted bail. In order to prevent a civil war that might continue as long as 7 months and 3 weeks, Mr. President needs to check into the situation right away. A political solution from the president must be followed, and discussions with Eastern elites are necessary.
“It is inhumane and will have a significant psychological impact on the youngsters to pull out schoolchildren, beat and molested them, and burn down the Amaraku market. Nigeria is sadly doomed to stagnation and is destroying itself.
“The Southeast needs to come together and speak with one voice, while those in the Diaspora who have been funding them and supporting their claims that Fulani herdsmen are murdering their women are now regretting the decision. It is now obvious to them that the Fulani are not the only threat in the Southeast; rather, the lack of unity in the Southeast poses a threat to itself.
The pro-Biafra group in the southeast frequently orders people to stay at home, but Mr. Jatto disagreed, saying: “A massive protest is better than staying at home, the Easterners can’t sit-at-home for one million years in the name of wanting Nnamdi Kanu out of prison, to me it is self-deceit because it is like one punishing his own children backwards which will affect the businesses of poor Igbos.
The pro-Biafra separatist, whom the southwest political activist referred to as a powerful leader in the southeast region, was imploring President Bola Tinubu to release him in order to restore peace and stability to the nation.
