Distinguished Nigerians, including Vice President Kashim Shettima and former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon, have expressed their concerns regarding the pressing need for Nigeria to overcome its ongoing security challenges.
Joining them in this sentiment were former Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Mariam Aloma Mukhtar, and former Minister of Communication, Adebayo Shittu.
The esteemed individuals gathered in Abuja on Friday for the launch of two books authored by Professor Abdullahi Y. Shehu, a former Nigerian Ambassador to Russia.
The books, titled “Boko Haram and other security challenges in Nigeria: Issues and options for policy” and “Reflections on the 2023 general elections: Lessons learned and the future of democracy in Nigeria,” shed light on crucial aspects of Nigeria’s security landscape.
Vice President Shettima, represented by his Special Adviser on General Duties, Dr. Aliyu Modibbo Umar, emphasized the determination of the Bola Tinubu administration to combat insecurity. Other speakers highlighted the indispensable role of peace in achieving sustainable development within the country.

Shettima commended Professor Shehu for providing valuable resources that enhance our understanding of the root causes of insecurity in Nigeria and offer potential solutions. He called upon scholars, including the author, to contribute credible data and analysis to support the government’s policies and measures.
Shettima further emphasized the persistent threats posed by terrorist organizations like Boko Haram, who aim to undermine the nation’s existence through violence.
He also acknowledged the presence of historical revisionists seeking to distort Nigeria’s national narrative.
These challenges served as the inspiration behind the books being presented, which are deemed essential in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s prioritization of security.
The launch of these books serves as a testament to the commitment of Nigerian leaders and intellectuals to address the country’s security challenges comprehensively.
It is hoped that the insights and recommendations contained within these publications will contribute to the formulation of effective strategies and policies to ensure a peaceful and prosperous future for Nigeria.
