An allocation of $27 million for Nigerian humanitarian assistance has been declared by the U.S. government, with a focus on assisting at-risk communities and improving their ability to withstand food shortages and climate-related catastrophes.
On Tuesday in Abuja, the U.S. Mission in Nigeria disclosed that a larger aid package of $536 million has been earmarked for sub-Saharan Africa and includes this recent announcement.
As a component of broader attempts to furnish humanitarian aid throughout the area, this endeavor represents America’s commitment to providing over $3.7 billion in sub-Saharan Africa during Fiscal Year 2024.
The financing was announced by Uzra Zeya, who holds the position of Under Secretary for Civilian Security, Democracy and Human Rights at the State Department; it will be channeled through both USAID’s Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance as well as Population Refugees&Migration Office under the jurisdiction of State department officials.

The aid bundle aims to target the urgent necessities of at-risk communities, encompassing refugees, asylum seekers, internally displaced individuals and stateless populations. It will be primarily directed towards regions like Sahel that are affected by conflicts.
Moreover, it will assist in promoting sustainable remedies such as voluntary repatriation and refugee integration through funding activities.
Richard Mills, the U.S. Ambassador to Nigeria, stressed the significance of this assistance and reaffirmed America’s dedication to aiding Nigeria in addressing their humanitarian obstacles.
He underscored that the $27 million aid grant would greatly benefit individuals with urgent needs within Nigeria by helping them brave food insufficiency and climate change difficulties while building resilience towards these problems.
Ambassador Mills stated that this assistance plan exemplifies the robust collaboration between Nigeria and the U.S. and our shared dedication to enhancing the welfare of susceptible communities.
