A little over 20,000 refugees who left the Republic of Cameroon are currently applying for asylum in Taraba State as a result of the crisis that is roiling Nigeria’s north- and south-western regions.
Five local government regions in the state—Kurmi, Gashaka, Sardauna, Takum, and Ussa—are home to the Cameroonian campers.
The federal government and Taraba State had received an appeal from the refugees pleading for help to lessen their suffering.

Governor of Taraba, Agbu Kefas, has reassured the refugees of their safety and protection as they wait for peace to return to their homeland, despite his concerns over the security crisis roiling the state.
In a recent meeting, the governor, accompanied by his deputy, pledged to make every effort to promote amicable cohabitation between the two neighbours.
It is anticipated that the meeting will produce suggestions in accordance with international best practises on refugees that will make it easier to integrate humanitarian services for refugees and vulnerable community members.
