Nigeria Dominates Benin Republic: Lookman, Osimhen Excel in AFCON 2025Q
Lookman and Osimhen deliver standout performances as Nigeria thrashes Benin Republic in a dominant AFCON 2025 qualifier match.
Nigeria took control of the game as Benin Republic assumed a defensive position from the onset. Wilfred Ndidi set up Ademola Lookman with a clear chance in the 17th minute, but he failed to convert and open the scoring.
Benin’s goalkeeper Saturnin Alagbe made a superb save to deny Samuel Chukwueze two minutes later.
In the latter part of the initial period, Lookman scored first with an exceptional independent play. The winger from Atalanta evaded three defenders before executing a vital shot into the goalpost.

In the latter part of the game, Lookman squandered yet another chance while Benin Republic became more dominant, with Steve Mounie putting Nigeria’s goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali to test from a short distance.
Victor Osimhen, who came on as a substitute, solidified Nigeria’s lead by scoring the second goal with an accurate shot after Ndidi provided assistance 12 minutes before full time. Lookman then secured their victory with his second goal in the 82nd minute.
On Tuesday, the Super Eagles will confront Rwanda at Kigali’s Amahoro Stadium.
