On Thursday, April 11, 2024, the Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, led a high-level delegation on an important mission to meet with the Director-General of the Customs Administration of the Benin Republic.
This meeting was aimed at strengthening the longstanding partnership between the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and its counterpart in the Republic of Benin, as revealed by the NCS on Sunday, April 14.
The main focus of the meeting, as highlighted by the CGC, was to discuss strategies that would enhance trade activities between the two nations.
Additionally, they aimed to ensure the smooth implementation of recommendations that were previously discussed during their meeting in Cotonou.
The CGC emphasized the significance of the collaboration, underscoring the awareness of the established framework for cooperation between the customs administrations of both countries.

This framework was established at a higher level by the respective heads of state, President Patrice Talon of Benin and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of Nigeria, who expressed their desire to work together. The customs administrations of both countries are united in their efforts based on this foundation.
The Director-General of Benin Customs Administration, Adidjatou Hassan Zanouvi, warmly welcomed the delegation and reaffirmed their unwavering commitment to implementing mutually agreed-upon measures.
She also stressed the importance of thorough monitoring to ensure the effective implementation of these measures.
According to her, the collaborative efforts between the two customs administrations serve as a testament to their shared commitment to facilitating seamless trade operations and efficiently managing cross-border activities for the mutual benefit of both nations.
Meanwhile, during the visit, the CGC took the opportunity to inspect ongoing projects at the Nigeria Customs, further demonstrating the dedication to improving customs operations and infrastructure.
