Adebo Ogundoyin, Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, was elected as the new Chairman of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria on Saturday.

After the Hon. Taiwo Oluomo, Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, withdrew from the conference’s national meeting in Abuja, Ogundoyin took his place.

Following that, the conference unanimously approved Ogundoyin’s election by voice vote.

Ogundoyin was elected to replace the honourable Abubakar Suleiman as speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly for a two-year term.

The Conference’s Constitution establishes a two-year term of office for its elected leadership, which alternates between the Northern and Southern regions of the nation.

As the Conference’s youngest Chairman since its founding in 1999, the Oyo State Speaker creates history.
Oyo Speaker, Ogundoyin, promised the conference selfless service in his acceptance speech.

I embrace this honour with tremendous humility, responsibility, and an overwhelming commitment to serve this group of highly esteemed Rt. Honourable Speakers of Nigeria’s State legislatures, the speaker added.

“I would like to remark that today represents another important turning point in my life, as well as in my political career, since despite being the youngest among you, you gave me the authority to pilot the Conference’s ship without hesitation. I consider this to be one of the highest honours conferred upon me as well as one of the biggest difficulties and duties recently placed upon me.

“However, I am prepared for the job and prepared to earn the trust that all of our very renowned Speakers of State legislatures in Nigeria have placed in me. I’ll collaborate and communicate with everyone because we are all essential participants in the task assigned to the new Executive council.

Oyo Speaker pledged that the new Executive Council will work assiduously to accomplish the Conference’s objectives as well as establish more challenging but doable objectives.

“We are prepared to elevate the Conference by working to make it more significant in the overall scheme of things in our dear nation,” he continued. We’ll also make sure there is a stronger network and communication with other parliaments, parliamentary organisations, and other illustrious institutions throughout the world.
