On Saturday, IPOB, the Indigenous People of Biafra, declared that Nnamdi Kanu’s release was the sole means of saving Nigeria.

The Save Nigeria Movement, or SNM, was criticised by IPOB for denouncing the chairman of the House of Representatives’ ad hoc committee, Obinna Aguocha, for his comment on Kanu.

Following an examination by the ad hoc committee, legislator Obinna Aguocha demanded that Kanu be unconditionally released from solitary prison by the Nigerian government and the Department of State Services, DSS.

The chairman of the ad hoc Committee stated that the release of Kanu is the only way to put an end to the instability in the East after significant discussion about the level of insecurity throughout Nigeria, with a focus on the Southeast, took place in the chambers.

However, IPOB claimed that Save Nigeria Movement (SNM)’s unreserved attacks and petition against Honourable Obinna Aguocha, chairman of the Federal House of Representatives ad hoc Committee, for disclosing the truth about the unlawful detention of Nnamdi KANU, demonstrate the group’s ignorance.

The spokesperson for IPOB, Emma Powerful, charged SNM with showing their racism by disparaging Aguocha’s reputation.

Powerful released the following statement: “We, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), led by our great leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, are asking, “How can charlatans join an organisation to save a dying nation and at the same time promote the collapse of the same country by their display of ignorance?

“Hon. Aguocha is involved in the Southeast and is aware of the main reasons why there is instability there. If it weren’t for the Nigerian government’s sponsorship of insecurity as justification for maintaining Mazi Nnamdi KANU’s illegitimate detention, they would use their attack dogs like SNM to attack anyone who demanded Mazi Nnamdi KANU’s release.

“It is indisputable that the Nigerian government must abide by the rulings of the Appeal Court that have freed and exonerated Mazi Nnamdi KANU. The Nigeria Supreme Court would be watched closely by the entire world if the government insists on the Supreme Court’s decision to legalise extraordinary rendition, which is an international crime.

“If SNM members are not misled, they ought to withdraw their careless claims and file a petition against Aguocha. They should also urge the Nigerian government to uphold its own rule of law by immediately releasing Mazi Nnamdi KANU, as ordered by the courts. SNG can save Nigeria this way, if they so choose.
