Niger State High Court mandates COAS Faruk’s detention and arrest

On the directives of Justice Halima Abdulmalik, the High Court in Minna, Niger State, has issued an arrest warrant for the Chief of Army Staff, General Faruk Yahaya, for alleged court disobedience.

Major General Stevenson Olugbenga Olabanji, the commandant of Training and Doctrine Command Minna, was also impacted.

The ruling came after a case was heard following Order 42, Rule 10 of the Niger State High Court Civil Procedure 2018, according to Abdulmalik, the state’s chief judge.

The Chief of Army Staff, General Faruk Yahaya, and the Commandant of Training and Doctrine Command Minna, Major General Stevenson Olugbenga Olabanji, would be kept in Minna Correctional Custody for challenges to the court’s decision on October 12, 2022, according to Justice Abdulmalik.

She gave the order that the two suspects be held in jail until they atone for their court disobedience.

The case was postponed to December 8, 2022, by the presiding judge.
