Gunmen have stormed a hotel in Niger and abducted seven guests. Get insights into the incident and the measures being taken to address the situation.
Seven individuals, including the proprietor of a hotel in Gauraka – situated off Niger State’s Tafa Local Government Area along the Abuja-Kaduna expressway – were kidnapped by alleged abductors during an unexpected attack.
Around 1 a.m. on Saturday, August 17th of the year 2024, an incident unfolded as attackers invaded a hotel. Musa, someone who resides in the area affected by this event, recalled that these kidnappers took control over everyone staying at the lodging location and left those nearby feeling fearful with many uncertainties ahead.
Sabo Abdullahi, the local vigilante group’s commander, has reported that those who fell victim to the attack were the hotel proprietor and his spouse, younger brother as well as manager. Additionally, three guests staying at said establishment also became casualties of this incident.
The attackers pried open the hotel gate and fired shots while taking hostages, subsequently alerting nearby inhabitants of the severity of the situation.
Abdullahi clarified that there was just one security hunter in the proximity who promptly took off upon seeing them. Although they were situated at the town’s center, it was already too tardy when they were apprised of the situation.
