According to Kwankwaso, after serving as governor for four or eight years, some people had nothing to show for it in their states.
Former governor of Kano State Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has told Niger State Governor-elect Umar Bago to get started right away for socioeconomic development if he wants to be a successful governor.
This was spoken by Kwankwaso during the newly-elected governor of Niger State’s inaugural lecture, which was held in Minna and had as its topic “Addressing the Challenges of Socio-Economic Development at Subnational Level in Nigeria.”
After serving as governor for four or eight years, he disclosed that numerous elected officials who boasted of their expertise and skill had failed and left their states with nothing.
In order to improve Niger state, he advised the governor-elect to avoid stealing and siphoning public monies and instead focus on empowering the populace via significant investments in security and education. He warned that if he didn’t, he would later regret his decision.
Prof. Attahiru Jega, a former chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, said that visionary and selfless leaders should be at the forefront of effective administration in order to meet the demands and ambitions of the general public.
While he voiced concern that money has been used to sabotage the Nigerian political process, he said that Nigeria needs excellent governance—not just any kind of administration, but genuine democratic governance, which is an essential element of our society.
The necessity for public office holders to always be honest and accountable was emphasized by Jega, who said that poor governance is to blame for the nation’s current economic problems.
The Niger State governor-elect promised during his speech to operate an open door policy for a revitalized Niger State and to exceed the expectations of the people by lifting the standard in administration.
Bago said that the speech had given the state fresh insights and laid the groundwork for optimism to return, and he thus urged for guidance and advise to ensure a successful presidency.
