The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has extended its congratulations to the Nigerians who have achieved electoral victories abroad.
Four Nigerians and a U.S.-born Nigerian, Dr. Oye Owolewa from the District of Columbia, Chiaka Barry from Ginninderra District in Australia, Segun Adeyina from Georgia, USA, and Yemi Mobolade from Colorado Springs, USA have won elections for various positions.
In a statement signed by Abdur-Rahman Balogun, Director of Media, Public Relations and Protocols at NiDCOM, the Chairman/CEO Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa extended her congratulations to them on their electoral success.
The head of NiDCOM praised them for setting new records in the political spheres of their respective communities and establishing high standards.
Dr. Oye Owolewa was re-elected as the Shadow Representative for the District of Columbia with the Democratic Party, while Chiaka Barry secured a position in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) Legislative Assembly representing Ginninderra District under the Liberal Party.
In 2023, Segun Adeyina was re-elected as State Representative for District 110 in Georgia, USA. Meanwhile, Adeyemi Mobolade made history by becoming the first Black person elected as Mayor of Colorado Springs.
Dabiri-Erewa praised their unwavering dedication and pursuit of success, encouraging them to maintain their resilient spirit as they continue fulfilling their respective duties.

Conversely, Adeyemi Mobolade is a Nigerian-American entrepreneur and politician who was elected as the 42nd Mayor of Colorado Springs, USA.
The election in Colorado Springs has been historically notable for being the first instance of a Black individual being elected to that position.
