Forbes has named Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the Director-General of the World Trade Organisation, the most powerful woman in Africa.
The notable Nigerian Okonjo-Iweala is ranked 87th in the Forbes 20th annual ranking of the Most Powerful Women in the World, which was revealed on Tuesday. She is ranked higher than Mpumi Madisa, a businesswoman from South Africa, who is ranked 88th.

The 93rd-ranked president of Tanzania, Samia Hassan, and the 98th-ranked media mogul and philanthropist, Mo Abudu, both hail from Nigeria.
The European Commission’s President for Impactful Policy and Budget, Ursula von der Leyen, was named the world’s most influential woman in 2023.
As President of the European Central Bank, Christine Lagarde is ranked second, and U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris is ranked third.
