There won’t be any opportunity for the President-General’s tenure to be extended, according to Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the leading Igbo sociocultural organisation.
According to Ohanaeze, the President-General’s post may be rotated in alphabetical order in accordance with its constitution.
When Imo State’s term as president of Ohanaeze expires on January 10, 2025, the faction’s secretary-general, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, pushed for the election of a new president from Rivers State beginning on January 11.
Isiguzoro stated that it was sacred for Rivers State to produce the next Ohanaeze President-General when he made the remark.
In Abakiliki, the capital of Ebonyi State, he spoke as part of a gathering with a group of Rivers women known as Umuokpu and Umuada Nwanyi Igbo Federation.
In order to determine if Rivers State will be able to produce the next President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo in 2025, a fact-finding mission was undertaken.
Isiguzoro told the women in a statement he signed that the “Constitution of Ohanaeze Ndigbo allows for the rotation of the office of the President-General in alphabetical order.
A new President-General from Rivers State will take office as head of the Igbo people on January 11th, 2025, after Imo State’s term finishes on January 10th.
Nothing will prevent a President-General from emerging from Rivers State on the designated day, and the existing President-General is not to have his or her mandate extended illegally.
According to the rotating pattern specified in the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Constitution, a new President-General from the state of Rivers will take office on January 11, 2025.
Isiguzoro also advised the Igbo community to support Rivers State in the upcoming Ohanaeze Ndigbo elections because the state has a number of suitable candidates for the position of President General.
