As a result of the victory, Newcastle moved up to third position in the Premier League standings, requiring just one more victory from their final two league contests to qualify for the top of Europe.

On Thursday, Newcastle defeated Brighton 4-1 at home to maintain their qualification for the Champions League. Callum Wilson scored late and then assisted on another goal.

After winning, Newcastle moved up to third position in the Premier League standings. To join the elite of Europe, they only need to win one of their final two league games this year, against Chelsea on the road and Leicester at home, on Monday.

Before halftime at St James’ Park, Kieran Trippier’s dead-ball talents allowed Newcastle to go up 2-0. His crosses caused Deniz Undav to score an own goal and Dan Burn to score with a headed goal.

However, Undav gave Brighton a goal early in the second half.

However, with the Seagulls attempting to score an equalizer, Wilson scored on the breakaway with a minute remaining in the game before setting up Bruno Guimaraes to help the Magpies make it 4-1.

Brighton is still in the running for a spot in the Europa League after a loss that dropped them to sixth place.

Sean Longstaff and Jacob Murphy, who are both injured, were once again left out of the Newcastle manager Eddie Howe’s starting lineup for this past weekend’s 2-2 draw at Leeds.

Jan Paul van Hecke, Facundo Buonanotte, Undav, and Danny Welbeck, in contrast, took the place of Levi Colwill, Alexis Mac Allister, Julio Enciso, and Evan Ferguson in Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi’s outstanding 3-0 triumph at Arsenal on Sunday.

As Undav attempted to clear Trippier’s wonderful inswinging corner, Newcastle’s early superiority was rewarded when he headed the ball into his own net in the 23rd minute.

And in the last seconds of the opening half, Burn headed in from a Trippier free kick after rising above the Brighton defense.

Saudi-backed Five minutes after the half, Newcastle had an opportunity to clinch the victory, but Jason Steele made a terrific stop on Miguel Almiron’s close-range attempt.

When Undav sprinted onto Billy Gilmour’s through ball and beat England goalkeeper Nick Pope, Brighton of the south coast was back in the match in just under a minute.

Wilson’s 18th league goal this year, the highest by a Newcastle player since Alan Shearer’s 22 goals in 2003/04, gave Newcastle the victory, capping a quick counterattack. Wilson’s goal was the deciding factor.

Wilson then changed roles, giving the ball to Bruno selflessly to start jubilant celebrations among Newcastle’s devoted and passionate supporters.
