New Nomination Fees Set by KANSIEC for Local Government Elections

KANSIEC reverses its previous decision and sets new nomination fees for chairmanship and councillorship elections. Get the details.

The Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) has reduced by N1 million each,the nomination fees for Chairmanship and Councillorship positions for the forthcoming local government elections in the state.

This followed a court order slammed on the commission by three opposition parties restraining the body from charging N10 million and N5 million for Chairmanship and Councillorship slots, respectively.

The commission is will now charge N9 million for Chairmanship nomination form and N4 million for councillorship nomination form for the forthcoming polls.

The Chairman of the commission,Prof.Sani Lawan Malumfashi,who announced the new fees at a news briefing in Kano on Friday, said the body reduced the fees in compliance with the court injunction.

“We are a law-abiding organization and as such,we are complying with the court order and therefore reducing the nomination fees to N9 million for chairmanship and N4 million for councillorship positions,”
Malumfashi said.

He said the nomination forms bearing the new fees are already in some designated banks and would be on sale from next Monday and advised candidates of the various political parties partaking in the elections to access them.

He commended the All Progressives Congress(APC) and other opposition political parties for their decision to partake in the election, describing it as a welcome development.

“Their decision to participate in the forthcoming election means that they trust and believe in us as an Electoral Commission,and this is a welcome development,”the Chairman said.

He said the date of the elections remains October 26,and that party primaries for the selection of candidates for the polls end tomorrow, September 14,2024.

He urged all candidates participating in the elections to conduct decent campaigns devoid of foul language and personal attacks on individuals.

“They should play the game by the rules and focus on issues such as poverty, unemployment, inflation and education in their campaigns,and not personal attacks on individuals,”Malumfashi added.
