New DSS DG Urged to Address Viral Video Spread by Mischief Makers – Ex-Director
An ex-Director of the DSS calls on the newly appointed Director-General to tackle the circulation of a viral video allegedly spread by mischief makers.
Mischief makers have been blamed by Mike Ejiofor, a former Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), for circulating a viral video following Adeola Ajayi’s appointment as the new DSS Director General.
During an appearance on the Politics Today programme by Channels Television on Wednesday, Ejiofor recommended that the secret police’s new director general investigate the content that has gone viral.
President Bola Tinubu has designated Ajayi to replace Yusuf Bichi as the new Assistant Director-General of the Service, effective Monday. Previously assigned to this position, Ajayi assumes his fresh role henceforth.
The new Director General for the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) is Mohammed Mohammed, who was appointed by the President to take over from Ahmed Rufai.
In June 2023, when Tinubu dismissed all service chiefs and security agency heads, he chose to retain Bichi and Rufai. These two were initially appointed by former President Muhammadu Buhari in 2018 to lead the respective intelligence agencies they currently head.
Following the recent appointments of Mohammed and Ajayi, social media platforms were inundated with videos purportedly depicting DSS agents celebrating at their headquarters in Abuja.

Ejiofor remarked in response to the popular video, explaining that “Certain clips have been circulating for quite some time now – from as early as 2018. Unfortunately, mischievous individuals tend to exploit this aspect of social media.”
“Although it is not conceded that the introduction of videos is a new phenomenon, when there are fresh appointments or elections successfully concluded, individuals tend to celebrate and proclaim joyfully that ‘our man’ will be assuming power.”
“It is a natural occurrence, but I believe it’s the handiwork of troublemakers since the SSS operates as a reputable organization. Whoever posted those items with malicious intent, whether recently or previously, simply seeks to cause chaos. However, I’m convinced that the DG will take action on this matter.”
Ajayi has expectations waiting for them.
Ejiofor expressed admiration for the new DSS boss, acknowledging that he faces high expectations in his role. He extended well wishes to him as he assumes this position.
According to the ex-director, Ajayi’s appointment by the President is “strategic” due to his extensive experience.
According to him, Ajayi has successfully managed challenging and intricate regions. As an example, Rivers State was a tumultuous political environment that he competently navigated while balancing various personalities in the region.
I anticipate that he will leverage this ability on a national scale; fostering reconciliation among individuals, rallying members of staff together and unifying the people of Nigeria.
