Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has declared that the Gaza ceasefire will end if Hamas does not release all Israeli hostages by Saturday, raising concerns over renewed conflict.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has stated that the Gaza ceasefire will be terminated if Hamas does not release Israeli hostages by Saturday.
Hamas announced on Monday that it would not be releasing three Israelis as planned for the upcoming weekend, citing alleged Israeli violations of the ceasefire.
Netanyahu stated that the Israeli military is prepared to “resume intense combat until Hamas is ultimately defeated.”
Donald Trump stated that Israel should abandon the ceasefire and “unleash chaos” if Hamas does not release all remaining hostages.
Trump is hosting King Abdullah of Jordan following his suggestion to potentially withhold aid from both Jordan and Egypt unless they cooperate with his plan to take control of Gaza and relocate its population into these two countries.
A total of 17 Israeli hostages were set to be released during the initial phase of the ceasefire, although Israel reports that eight among them are deceased. Meanwhile, hundreds of Palestinian prisoners have already been freed by Israel.
We are now able to present Benjamin Netanyahu’s complete statement – here is what the Israeli Prime Minister has to say:
I have just finished a comprehensive four-hour discussion in the political-security cabinet.
We all expressed outrage at the appalling situation faced by our three hostages, who were released last Saturday.
We all welcomed President Trump’s demand for the release of our hostages by Saturday noon, as well as his revolutionary vision for Gaza’s future.
Following Hamas’ announcement of their decision to breach the agreement by not releasing our hostages, I instructed the IDF last night to gather forces within and around the Gaza Strip. This operation is currently underway and will be completed in the near future.
The decision I approved unanimously in the cabinet is as follows: If Hamas does not return our hostages by noon on Saturday, the ceasefire will be ended, and IDF operations will escalate until Hamas is ultimately defeated.
Netanyahu delivers an ultimatum regarding the release of hostages
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has addressed the public following a four-hour cabinet meeting he led earlier today. This meeting was convened in response to Hamas’s announcement that it would not be releasing any hostages this weekend.
He announced: “The cabinet unanimously decided that if Hamas does not return our hostages by Saturday noon, the ceasefire will end. The IDF will then resume intense fighting until Hamas is ultimately defeated.”
