Abure’s tenure as Labour Party chairman comes to an end, with Nenadi Usman stepping in as the new National Caretaker Chair for the party.
The Kaduna State chapter of the Labour Party (LP) has stated that Nenadi Usman’s appointment as the National Caretaker Chairman was made after Barrister Julius Abure’s tenure had ended.
In a statement released in Kaduna on Saturday, the Interim Committee Chairman and Secretary of the State Labour Party – Mr Yusuf Solomon Danbaki and Sani Sahabi respectively – stated that Barrister Julius Abure’s tenure along with his appointees concluded on June 9th, 2024. The committee rejects Nenadi Usman’s appointment owing to their hesitancy towards acknowledging this fact.
In recognition of his prior contributions and service as the previous State Chairman, Auwal Tafoki was acknowledged by the party with gratitude. Additionally, they emphasized that it is essential for the party to progress forward.
As per the declaration, appointing Nenadi Usman is a crucial measure to guarantee the success and efficiency of the party because it was facilitated by Governor Alex Otti with support from former presidential nominee Peter Obi, national and state assembly members, NLC, TUC, gubernatorial candidate’s forum along with other pertinent stakeholders.

According to the statement, INEC has terminated all transactions with Barrister Abure and his appointed representatives. Therefore, it is crucial for the party to accept and support the new leadership.
“The statement stressed the importance of change for the Labour Party to stay functional and relevant, acknowledging that accepting it may pose a challenge.”
The statement called upon every member and stakeholder to provide their support towards the new leadership in order to enhance both the party’s welfare and its prospect for progress in the nation.
