According to Dauda Jolaosho, a resident of Alako Nla hamlet on Kobape Road in Abeokuta, his neighbour shot and killed his wife because the couple owed money for solar lights.
Fisherman Jolaosho, 44, said on Wednesday that he and his spouse had been shot by their friend and neighbour, timbre operator Saheed Olawale. Jolaosho survived the shooting with a gunshot wound to his arm, but his wife passed away immediately.
Jolaosho described the horrific event, saying that it happened on Wednesday, April 20,24, and that it had left him totally broken. His wife had left behind three other children, who were five, ten, and eight months old, as well as the twins who were eight months old.
“Actually, this incident began on April 23, 2024,” he stated. The folks from whom we purchased the solar light arrived at my house just as I was ready to leave.
“We actually purchased these solar lights from them in March of last year; we paid a N10,000 deposit, and we currently pay N1150 each week, for a total of about N67,000.”
“And I have been paying the weekly bill for this solar light; in fact, I only have N3,000 left to pay. Therefore, when these individuals arrived at my place, they claimed that they also wanted to see how Olawale, also known as Komaye, was doing.

“They stated that Olawale has ceased receiving weekly payments and that he will not answer calls even when they are placed. They informed him that their only option was to return the solar light to their office and him a phone number so he could contact them as soon as he got back from work.
Jolaosho continued, saying that Olawale got into a fight with him and wasn’t prepared to hear his explanation as soon as he returned from work and discovered that the individuals had taken his solar light back to their office.
“On Wednesday, April 24, the following morning, Olawale came to my house, picked up my phone, and left,” he stated.
“Then I saw him approaching with the neighbourhood gun, and as my wife was pleading with him not to shoot, he pulled the trigger, hitting my arm. When I turned to look back, I saw my nearly eighteen-year-old wife dead in a pool of her own blood.”
According to the fish farmer, the Ogun State police command, located in Eleweran, Abeokuta, received the incident’s initial complaint at Kemta police station in Abeokuta.
He further mentioned that his late wife was buried in Alako Nla, Abeokuta, on Tuesday.
He begged Nigerians and the Ogun State government to assist him in taking care of the five children that his wife left behind, all the while demanding justice for her.
During a conference call with SP Omolola Odutola, the spokesperson for the Ogun State police command, the Divisional Police Officer of Kemta, CSP Wale Famobuwa, verified the occurrence.
“We went to the crime scene after the incident was reported to our station between 12 and 2 pm that day,” the DPO stated.
The husband of the woman who was shot dead was fighting with the person who was suspected of killing her.
According to reports, he threatened to stone the man who killed his wife, but the alleged murderer stopped him and threatened to shoot him if he did.
But Olawale apparently pulled out his dane gun and opened fire on Jolaosho and his wife, who were attempting to mediate a peaceful settlement, as Jolaosho proceeded to stone Olawale.
Olawale was still at large, the police continued, and they promised to bring him to justice.
