Abia State has emerged as the top performer, while Katsina ranks last in the 2024 NECO SSCE results. Explore the full breakdown of state performances.
NECO has announced the outcomes of its 2024 SSCE internals, with a total of 828,284 candidates obtaining five credits including Mathematics and English Language. This number represents 60.55% success rate among test takers.
On Thursday, the Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of NECO, Prof Dantana Wushishi disclosed the results to reporters at their Headquarters in Minna, Niger State.
According to Wushishi, the percentage of candidates who received five credits or more (excluding English Language and Mathematics) is 83.90%, equating to a total of 1,147,597 individuals.
He observed that of the 1,376,423 individuals who registered for the test, a total of 1,367736 actually took it. Among these candidates were 702112 males and 665624 females.
He stated that there was a decrease of 30.1 percent in the amount of candidates engaging in malpractice, with 8,437 individuals doing so in 2024 as opposed to the previous year’s total of 12,030.
According to the registrar, there are 2,267 candidates with special needs. Out of this number: 1,104 have a hearing impairment; 348 have visual impairments; 342 suffer from albinism; while autism and low vision account for238 and236 individuals respectively.

In addition, he disclosed that in the 2024 SSCE administration, a total of 40 schools across 17 states were discovered to have engaged in widespread cheating as an entire institution. Furthermore, due to inadequate supervision and misconduct such as assisting or encouraging cheating, failing to fulfill duties by leaving their posts without notice, demanding bribes for favorable outcomes or being under the influence of alcohol during exams while on duty neglecting responsibilities; about twenty-one supervisors from twelve different states received recommendations for permanent disqualification (blacklisting) from similar roles.
According to Wushishi, a school in Ekiti State was advised for de-recognition due to pervasive cheating in two core subjects and one science subject.
According to him, when considering the performance of states, Abia State had a leading position across the country with 83.40% of their candidates having achieved five credits or more which includes both Mathematics and English language; in contrast, Katsina State scored low at just 2.42%.
The state boasts a 95.84 percent of candidates with five credits or more regardless of their performance in Mathematics and English language, making it the leading region in this aspect as well.
According to the registrar’s announcement, Katsina State ranks last on the table for states with five or more credits in subjects like Mathematics and English Language. They received a score of 42.00 percent, only slightly higher than second-to-last ranking Kano which scored 44.42 percent.
