Daniel Bwala urges prayers for Senator Ali Ndume, describing him as troubled amid recent political tensions.

On Monday, Daniel Bwala, the recently appointed Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, responded to Senator Ali Ndume’s request for him to apologize for his past criticisms of the ruling All Progressives Congress.

After President Bola Tinubu appointed Bwala last Thursday, Ndume issued a statement urging him to apologize for his previous actions, specifically his opposition to the selection of Senator Kashim Shettima as Tinubu’s running mate in 2023.

On Monday, during his first briefing with State House Correspondents at the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja since his appointment last Thursday, Bwala dismissed Ndume’s advice and mentioned that he has a ‘fantastic’ relationship with the Vice President.

Typically, I wouldn’t have addressed his issue myself. However, when informed about what he said, I promptly reached out to the Vice President, and we even shared some jokes about it. My relationship with the Vice President is excellent; in fact, our rapport began before the court’s judgment on this matter was delivered.

Our relationship grew stronger leading up to the formation of the National Assembly’s leadership. Since that time, we have maintained a very positive connection.

“I do understand that the senator is currently going through a difficult period, and I believe we should keep him in our prayers for God’s guidance and support. However, our main focus remains on the President’s work; this isn’t about Bwala—it’s all about supporting the president,” he stated.

Bwala confirmed that he would be taking over as Tinubu’s official spokesperson, replacing Mr. Ajuri Ngelale, who began an indefinite leave last September.

The appointment of Bwala by President Bola Tinubu has ignited debate, considering Bwala’s previous position as a spokesperson for Atiku Abubakar’s 2023 presidential campaign and his outspoken criticism of Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress.

Bwala’s appointment marks him as the third individual to serve as a Special Adviser to the President in a media-related capacity. Previously, veteran journalist Mr. Bayo Onanuga was appointed Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, while former Sports Minister Sunday Dare took up the role of Special Adviser on Public Communication and Orientation.

Addressing questions about potential role overlaps, Bwala stated, “There is no confusion regarding the distinct responsibilities. Everyone understands their own duties. I’m not here to outline anyone else’s responsibilities except my own, as that would be misleading.”

“I just wanted to introduce myself and the position I’ve been assigned by Mr. President. As I mentioned, Ajuri Ngelale previously held this role, but ultimately, we are all colleagues here. We’re not concerned with titles; our focus is on fulfilling Mr. President’s mandate.”
