According to Ndume, he did not have a strong desire for the position of Vice Chairman of the Appropriation Committee. Instead, due to his backing of Akpabio’s nomination as Senate President and encouragement from others, he agreed to take on the role of Chief Whip. He made an independent decision to willingly accept the post in question and emphasizes that there was no sense of desperation involved in this choice.
Ndume commented on his recent appointment, stating that he was informed of being named Chairman of the Tourism Committee informally and without any official communication. He declined the offer due to two reasons – firstly because he is not a tourist himself, and secondly because he lacks expertise in tourism industry matters.
Ndume urged President Bola Tinubu to confront the concerns he raised, emphasizing the discontent among citizens.
Blindly supporting the President goes against patriotism. Being a true patriot entails speaking the truth, regardless of who holds power. As we say in Hausa: “Allah ya na tare da mai gaskiya,” which translates to God always stands with those who are truthful, he emphasized.
“I am convinced that the truth is on my side, as well as on the people’s. The suffering of many has to be eased and I hope that my concerns will not go unnoticed by our President. Leaders ought to reconsider their actions especially when those they govern are unhappy with them. My position was granted by God and removed through divine will; thus, there is no reason for me to hold any ill feeling towards anyone. It’s important to note that I did not seek or campaign for these positions but rather campaigned solely aiming at being a senator in Nigeria’s Federal Republic elections where alhamdulillah (praise be upon Allah), victory came from Him alone – this remains fundamental.”
