The NDLEA has intercepted multiple shipments of Loud, a potent strain of cannabis, arriving from Canada in Lagos. This operation highlights ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking in Nigeria.
532 parcels of Loud, a man-made variation of cannabis Sativa (commonly known as Indian hemp), were confiscated by the NDLEA at Lagos State’s Tincan Seaport.
In a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja, Mr. Femi Babafemi, the Director of Media and Advocacy at the agency revealed this information.
According to Babafemi, the black Toyota Sienna bus was discovered on Wednesday, Aug.7 and it contained drugs with a total weight of 265.25kg.
According to him, the bus was among three vehicles enclosed in a container labeled MSMU 6029570 that had originated from Montreal, Canada.
The seizure was the outcome of a complete joint inspection carried out with Customs Service officials and other parties involved.
He stated that on Thursday, the agents confiscated an additional 75 packages filled with identical material weighing a total of 37.5kg from a container labeled FSCU-9274613 that originated in Canada.
A recent occurrence in Adamawa involved the capture of Joseph Peter, a 49-year-old suspected drug trafficker. The operation was carried out on Thursday by NDLEA operatives who received aid from Farauta Sector 3 personnel stationed at Mayo Belwa.
In his Toyota Camry car with the Lagos KSF 381 HM marking, it was discovered that the accused possessed 425 compressed blocks of cannabis sativa weighing a total of 291.200kg as reported by Babafemi.
According to the NDLEA spokesperson, the suspect stated that he was transporting the shipment from Edo with intentions of delivering it in Yola, Adamawa.
On Tuesday, in the Gadar Tamburawa area of Kano, 29.5kg of cannabis led to the arrest and detention of two suspects: Adekunle Adebayo (50) and Yahaya Mamuda (35).
On Sunday Aug. 4, it was reported by Babafemi that in Lagos, NDLEA operatives found 1,169 kilograms of the psychoactive substance hidden inside a bus on Orchard Road in Ajah.
On Friday, he stated that as much as 1,230.00kg of cannabis was eradicated from three hectares of farmland located in Edimogo village’s Ikeje forest within Kogi’s Igalamela/Odolu Local Government Area.
“NDLEA officers, with the assistance of Nigerian Army personnel, conducted this operation while detaining Danjuma Maji, aged 40,” he stated.
