NDLEA Busts Major Cocaine Rings, Seizes Multi-Million Naira Drugs
A significant operation by the NDLEA has led to the seizure of multi-million naira worth of cocaine and the arrest of members from major syndicates.
Millions of naira worth of illicit drugs have been successfully seized by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in a nationwide sweep.
Mr. Femi Babafemi, who is the Director of Media and Advocacy for the NDLEA, made a statement on Sunday in Abuja disclosing this information.
2.32kg of cocaine concealed within Ghanaian Kente fabric and intended for the United Kingdom was seized by NDLEA agents during an intelligence-led operation.
On August 5, a seizure took place at a courier service in Lagos. Along with this occurrence, the same logistics company was discovered to be hiding 10.494kg of the identical substance in hefty pivot shafts intended for transportation to the United States by the agency.
According to Babafemi, the sniffing dogs of NDLEA were instrumental in identifying car components that contained illegal drugs. In total, two shipments carrying 12.814kg of cocaine were seized.
On August 9, additional actions were taken at a different courier service in Lagos resulting in the discovery of five packages en route to Canada, UK, and the U.S.
The intercepted items included clothing garments concealing 517grams of cocaine as well as an assortment of pentazocine and promethazine injections alongside cocodamol pills. Additionally, officials seized 297 tramadol tablets containing a dose equivalent to225mg each which had been bound for shipment towards Canada.
Another important discovery was made by NDLEA agents who found 21 packages of Loud, a potent synthetic cannabis strain weighing 10kg. The shipment from the U.S. was headed for Abuja but intercepted before delivery could occur.
At Alafia Orile, Amuwo Odofin in Lagos, a significant member of a cocaine trafficking organization was apprehended by the authorities on August 7. The individual had been caught endeavoring to transfer 9.00kg worth of cocaine to Onitsha located in Anambra State.
A subsequent operation resulted in two more individuals being detained on August 8 who were believed to be part of an associated group based out of Nnewi that focused on distributing cocaine through their syndicate network.
After confiscating their drug shipment on a public transit bus in Edo State’s Benin, arrests were made. At the Benin tollgate, 2.865kg of cocaine was found with the bus driver who is now being held in custody for questioning.
