During the period of June 2023 to June 2024, 360 individuals were detained by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency’s (NDLEA) Anambra State Command for drug-related crimes.
In addition, 197 people were charged with trafficking in illegal drugs in the state during the year under review, according to state commander Daniel Onyishi.
On Wednesday, he made this revelation at the 10th Drug Quiz Competition for Secondary Schools in Anambra, Awka, and during the 2024 International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

2.8557 tonnes of drugs, including cannabis and other harmful substances, were seized during the year, according to Onyishi, who also stated that the command counselled, rehabilitated, and helped 258 former drug users make amends with their families.
He clarified that cooperative efforts with sister security agencies and communities allowed the command to accomplish the feat.
He reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to stepping up education efforts throughout the state and beyond about the risks associated with drug use and substance misuse, particularly among young people.
