The Super Eagles would make every effort to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, according to Wilfred Ndidi.
The last World Cup, which Qatar hosted, saw no West African teams make it there.
In the playoff round, the Super Eagles were defeated by their enduring rivals, the Black Stars of Ghana, on a combined score.
For a spot in the 2026 World Cup finals, Jose Peseiro’s team will compete against South Africa, the Benin Republic, Rwanda, Lesotho, and Zimbabwe.
“This victory (against Sao Tome and Principe) is important for us. Before the World Cup qualifiers, it will enhance morale, Ndidi told reporters.
“Not participating in the most recent World Cup in Qatar was terrible. We really let the fans down, and we cannot afford to do it again.
“All we have to do is keep pushing forward as a team and hopefully everything will work out for us.”
On November 13, Nigeria’s Crocodiles of Lesotho will be their opponent in their opening match of the qualifiers.
