The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, NCDC, has initiated an inquiry into an enigmatic ailment that has been surfacing in Kaduna, Sokoto, and Zamfara states.
According to the health organization’s latest update on its official platform, they are currently scrutinizing samples from those affected to ascertain the root cause of this peculiar sickness.
The NCDC revealed that a total of 196 cases have been documented in Isa, Sabon Birni, and Ilella local government areas of Sokoto State, resulting in the unfortunate demise of at least seven individuals.
Furthermore, it was mentioned that samples have been dispatched to other laboratories for further examination.
Reports of similar incidents in Zamfara prompted the immediate deployment of a National Rapid Response Team, NRRT, to evaluate the situation and offer assistance.

Residents, particularly in Kaduna State, have been strongly advised to promptly report any symptoms such as fever, abdominal pain, vomiting, and weight loss.
The public agency also highlighted concerns about suspected heavy metal poisoning associated with mining activities, emphasizing the potential risks of environmental contamination.
It stressed the importance of taking preventive measures like avoiding direct contact with dust and soil, as well as enforcing safety protocols in mining operations to mitigate health hazards posed by exposure to heavy metals.
