The Nigerian Navy has successfully recovered stolen crude oil and dismantled several illegal refining sites in the Niger Delta, reinforcing efforts to combat oil theft and environmental degradation.
Significant achievements were made by the Nigerian Navy’s Unit, operating through Operation DELTA SANITY, in combating crude oil theft and dismantling illegal refining locations throughout the Niger Delta region.
Commodore Adams Aliyu, the Director of Information, stated this.
On August 29th, he reported that 7 substantial Cotonou boats and 2 fiber boats were taken in by heavily armed oil thieves while loading crude oil from an unauthorized point around Botokiri axis of Nembe Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
On August 31, six individuals who were suspected of stealing crude oil and had in their possession 109 sacks containing illicitly refined petroleum products along with four fiber boats and two wooden boats were apprehended and confiscated by authorities at Ogboinbiri-Kasama-Azama-Isoni located in Bayelsa State.
In Yenagoa, Bayelsa State at Otuogori community river bank on 1st September, two wooden boats and three hundred twenty-eight sacks containing unlawfully processed Automated Gas Oil were apprehended.
He went on to disclose that 35 bags of Automotive Gas Oil that had been illegally refined were confiscated in a wooden boat at Gbaraun area, which is located within the Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, on September 2nd.
The statement indicated that Operation DELTA SANITY was successful and demonstrated the Nigerian Navy’s commitment to continuing its efforts towards eradicating crude oil theft in Nigeria’s maritime environment, as well as boosting overall crude oil production.
