A 45-year-old local doctor named Michael Oyewole was given a 12-month prison sentence by an Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court on Thursday for the murder of his neighbor’s cow.
The prisoner, who lives in the Abeokuta neighbourhood of Araromi Alakaloko Olomore, entered a not guilty plea to the three counts of conspiracy, theft, and purposeful and unlawful death of a cow.
Magistrate O.O. Odumosu, however, decided that the prosecution had proven the convict’s guilt of the crime beyond a reasonable doubt.

She gave Oyewole a 12-month term for stealing, with the possibility of a N10,000 fine, and a 6-month sentence for murdering the cow against her will.
The magistrate ruled that the offender could only use the option to pay a fine if he gave the complainant N400,000, which was the price of the cow he slaughtered.
The punishment should operate concurrently, she continued.
ASP Olakunle Shonibare, the prosecution’s attorney, had earlier informed the court that the defendant had committed the crime on June 3 at around 11:00 p.m. at the Alakoloko Unique Estate Olomore neighbourhood of Abeokuta.
According to Shonibare, the prisoner colluded with fugitives and pilfered a cow belonging to Mr. Hakeem Ominrinde, valued at N400,000.
According to him, the offence was against sections 516, 383, and 450 of the Ogun 2006 Criminal Code Laws. (NAN)
