UITH doctors join the nationwide resident doctors’ strike, demanding better working conditions. Discover what’s driving this nationwide protest.
The University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital branch members belonging to the Association of Resident Doctors have begun participating in the strike that was announced by the union’s national body.
On Monday, a strike began to push for the release of two members who have been held captive by kidnappers for approximately eight months.
Dr. M.J. Yusuf, Kwara State Chairman of the medical association at the teaching hospital in Ilorin revealed to OBASANJONEWS on Tuesday that although three doctors were initially taken hostage, one was subsequently released.

He explained that they had planned to relinquish their patients and services to consultants on Monday out of humanitarian concern.
Nevertheless, due to the directive from national headquarters, “we have now refrained from fulfilling our duties.”
He added that they plan to continue their strike for two weeks in order to emphasize their demand for the release of their abducted members by federal authorities.
