Alex Otti, the Governor of Abia State, has reiterated his concerns that the proposed national demonstration could escalate into violence and harm those who are impoverished, weak or vulnerable within society.
During a Tuesday morning broadcast to the people of Abia, Otti pleaded with traditional rulers, as well as leaders from religious organizations and other community figures, encouraging them to dissuade their communities from resorting to violent measures.
The governor recommended that the young people of Abia employ patience and communicate their demands to leaders through a charter. He provided assurances that his government will take all necessary measures to safeguard citizens from harm and damage.

While acknowledging the right of Nigerians to protest against poor conditions, he raised concerns that legitimate intentions behind the nationwide demonstration could be compromised if it was hijacked by delinquents and saboteurs who incite unrest.
Governor Otti emphasized that his administration has made substantial investments in the infrastructure of Aba and Umuahia. He further expressed concern that such vital assets could be targeted for demolition by individuals seeking to exploit protests within the state as a platform for causing chaos.
According to him, Abia requires a strong commitment to peace and continued growth instead of turmoil.
According to the governor, certain economic measures implemented by the federal government such as discontinuing fuel subsidies may not have produced their intended outcomes. However, he advised young people against using violent tactics and urged them to pursue peaceful approaches in advancing their demands.
According to Otti, the civil servants in Abia state have received their April allocation for the Wage Award as per his administration’s promise. He also emphasized on other fulfilled commitments and urged citizens of Abia to refrain from engaging in any form of violence.
