Darkness engulfs Nigeria following yet another collapse of the national power grid, sparking concerns over the country’s electricity infrastructure and energy reliability.
Nigeria was plunged into darkness on Monday due to another collapse of the national grid.
Emeka Ezeh, the spokesperson for Enugu Electricity Distribution Company, confirmed in a statement on Monday evening that there had been a grid collapse.
He stated that the overall system failure happened at 6:48 PM on Monday.
The Disco stated that the development resulted in a power supply disruption throughout its franchise.
The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company PLC (EEDC) would like to inform its valued customers about a widespread system collapse that took place at 18:48 today, October 14th, 2024. This incident has led to the ongoing power outage across the EEDC network.
As a result of this development, all our interface TCN stations are currently out of supply, preventing us from providing services to our customers in Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo States.
He stated, “We are standing by for detailed information from the National Control Centre (NCC) in Osogbo regarding the collapse and restoration of supply.”
In addition, the grid collapse was confirmed by Eko Distribution Company.
It stated, “Dear Valued Customer,”
Please be informed that a system collapse occurred at 18:48, causing a loss of power supply across our network.
We are collaborating with our partners to expedite the grid restoration and will update you promptly once power is restored.
We appreciate your patience.
The power supply was interrupted at approximately 6:50 PM on Monday.
In August 2024, the grid experienced a partial failure that led to a blackout. Additionally, in July of this year, there was another collapse of the national grid.
According to information from the Transmission Company of Nigeria, over the past 14 years, the national grid has experienced approximately 227 collapses.
This follows a 240 percent increase in electricity tariffs in April, which has exacerbated the difficulties faced by Nigerians.
