Many places have been plunged into darkness as the national grid has collapsed for the fifth time this year.
The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) stated that the grid collapsed at approximately 2:55 pm on Monday, although there has been no statement from the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).
“On X, AEDC stated that it is aware of the fact that some customers are currently experiencing power outage following a system breakdown on the national grid by 2:55 PM today, August 5th, 2024.”
The distribution company reassured its customers that it is collaborating with other entities to restore the system.
It was stated that efforts are being made with all relevant parties to swiftly restore power in the affected regions as the system is gradually becoming more stable.
In 2024, the grid experienced five instances of collapse with the first occurrence taking place on February 4. Additionally, it collapsed on March 28th, April 15th and July sixth.
