Jibrin Mohammed, the Emir of Gurku, and his wife were kidnapped by gunmen in the Gurku, Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, according to the state’s police command.
The emir was kidnapped from his palace, DSP Ramhan Nansel, the Command Public Relations Officer, said in a Monday statement to newsmen in Lafia.
The palace of Gurku Town, which is 10 kilometres from the major town of Mararaba in the Karu Local Government Area, reportedly came under attack on August 6 by individuals who were allegedly kidnappers, according to Nansel.
“Upon learning of the incident, the vigilante group and a joint team of police officers were sent to the scene by the Nasarawa State Commissioner of Police, CP Maiyaki Mohammed-Baba.
The chief and his wife had been taken captive and taken to an unidentified location when they arrived, it was revealed.
All attempts to find them again proved unsuccessful, he added, adding that the bushes and mountains nearby had been searched.
He did promise them that more members of the tactical team, the anti-kidnapping squad, and the Karu Area Command had been sent to the location by the commissioner.
The chief and his wife are being saved while being kept safe. As things happen, the general people would be kept in the loop, he promised.
