The Governor of Nasarawa State, Abdullahi Sule, has come under fire from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for appealing the tribunal’s decision to remove him from office at nearly midnight on Sunday.
The Nasarawa State governorship election had been won by David Ombugadu of the PDP, according to the tribunal, which had ousted Sule of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Mike Omeri, the director of media and publicity for the Ombugadu Campaign Organisation, stated in a statement made available to OBASANJO NEWS24 that the timing of the submission of the Sule’s appeal has raised questions and is perceived as a deliberate effort to block the advancement of the PDP candidate.

According to Omeri, the late-night submission was likely done to keep Ombugadu from timely filing a notice of cross-appeal as required by law.
He insisted that the action, which will further aggravate an already heated electoral issue, is an attempt to obstruct due process and the fairness of the legal processes.
The campaign organisation emphasised the necessity for a just and open legal system, free from any coercive measures that would jeopardise the prevailing democratic ideals.
The Ombugadu Campaign Organisation is extremely alarmed by Governor AA Sule’s recent activities, including the filing of his appeal against the Election Tribunal’s decision to remove him from office at 10 p.m. on a Sunday night.
“This premature and unusual petition looks to be an intentional effort to thwart our candidate, Hon. David Ombugadu, who was recognised by the judiciary as the victor of the Nasarawa State governorship election in March 2023. It is obvious that the goal was to keep him from submitting a notice of cross-appeal within the legally required timeframe.
“The timeliness of Governor Sule’s appeal filing raises concerns about openness, justice, fairness, and respect for the law.
This emphasises even more how strangely determined they are to succeed at any costs, regardless of the ensuing turmoil.
Dr. Ombugadu has said in a number of forums that his ambition is not worth the loss of life of any regular person, including women, children, and elderly people, as well as the damage of property.
“The late-night weekend date also points to a lack of interest in participating in a fair and open legal determination of the in question situation. For our people and our democracy, we believe that justice must be served while also being seen to be served.
